Sackville Wolves repeat as Garnet Knight Cup
Game 4 of the ECJLL Garnet Knight Cup Series was played on a hot Sunday afternoon as the Sackville Wolves and Saint John Rapids went head-to-head for the W of this one. Wolves winning meant a repeat win of the Cup, while the Rapids were looking to stay alive and force Game 5.
From the first faceoff whistle to the last buzzer of the game, the intensity at Sackville Arena was electric. Each hit was hard and felt by the crowd, and every shot on goal was a hold-your-breath moment in time. Over 5 minute passed in the 1st period before a ball got between the posts, and it was by the Rapids, who dominated the first 15 minutes of the 1st period, allowing the Wolves to only get 1 in, but the Wolves woke up towards the end of that period, with Jack McKay and Josh Hollet taking the reins and scoring 3 goals in under 2 minutes.
2nd period saw the teams a little more evenly matched up, with a lot of play at both ends of the floor, Rapids adding 4 more goals to their total, while Wolves only got 3 in the net.
Starting the third with Rapids up 9-7, Wolves turned up the pressure and the scoring, dominating the last period of this game. After they added 6 goals up in the board, while only allowing Rapids to gain 1 during the same timing, the Wolves lead 13-10. With only less than 1 minute left to the game, Rapids mounted a comeback, scoring with 42 secs to make it 13-11 and than another with only 3 secs on the clock! It wasn't enough though to tie the game and force overtime.
With a final score at the end of 60 minutes of play, and a score of 13-12, Sackville Wolves took the Garnet Knight Cup for the 2nd year in a row, and for the second time in ECJLL history.
